The Alberta Junior Hockey League received approval from the province of Alberta to restart the 2020-21 season under the Return to Play plan.

Currently, players coaches and off-ice staff are in quarantine in preparation for training camp, which will begin at the start of March.

The regular season will start soon after, with games held exclusively on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, until the end of May.

“We are grateful for the guidance provided by Alberta Health Services and our Chief Medical Officer in developing the protocols required to safely resume the season for our athletes,” said AJHL Commissioner Ryan Bartoshyk.  “Thank you to the Government of Alberta for the opportunity to allow our athletes to develop and excel here in Alberta, and to all 15 AJHL teams for the significant dedication to your players and communities across the province.”

At this point in time spectators will not be allowed to attend the games in person due to provincial restrictions; but games are available on HockeyTV.

The teams in the league have committed to weekly COVID-19 tests through DynaLIFE for the remainder of the season, as well as twice before training camp.

DynaLIFE testing was utilized by the National Hockey League during the recent Stanley Cup playoffs and the 2021 World Junior Championships in Edmonton.

Players must test negative twice before they are allowed to attend and team activities at training camp.

If a member of the AJHL cohort—either player or staff– test positive for the coronavirus at any point in the season, the team will be required to isolate and suspend all in-person team activities for 14 days.

All screening will be monitored through the SureHire Risk Assessment App.

An updated league schedule will be announced shortly.
